Southwest Pilot Hosts Airplane Pizza Party During Lengthy Delay

Amid a lengthy delay, a Southwest pilot decided he wanted to bring a touch of joy to his passengers.

First Officer James was the co-pilot of a Southwest Airlines flight leaving from Washington D.C.’s Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport this past week. After a severe traffic delay grounded them for a significant period of time, James disembarked the plane, ordered pizza for all the passengers on board, and personally served it row-by-row.

Southwest Airlines commented on First Officer James’ kind gesture in a Southwest Airlines Facebook post. “Most Pilots fly the plane. First Officer James flew the plane AND bought everyone pizza. At Southwest, we hire for Heart. James is a walking definition of why.”

In photos from the “pizza party,” James can be seen walking down the center aisle, holding a box of pizza among smiling passengers, and serving slices to them. He also brings pizza to his flight crew, who seem quite pleased with the special surprise.

Social media users also weighed in on First Officer James’ airplane pizza party.

“I fly from Indy to Ft. Lauderdale the 27th if you would like to surprise me..lol,” one commenter teased.

“Aww I just flew with him and he’s such a sweetheart, kind, just a gentleman,” another wrote.

This story breaks just as Southwest Airlines bans humanoid and animal-like robots from flying, as a means to protect passengers from potential lithium battery fires.
