Atlanta Airport Prepares for Nearly 2.7 Million Passengers Through Memorial Day Weekend

The Memorial Day weekend travel period at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport just began starting Wednesday, and will officially conclude exactly one week later on Wednesday, May 27th. Officials believe that Friday will be the busiest day for the airport, and have estimated that nearly 380,000 travelers will pass through the airport on that day.

These trends align with what the American Automobile Association (AAA) believe US travelers will contend with on the road, with record-breaking Memorial Day weekend travel expected all across the country. In Georgia specifically, AAA says that 1.3 million people, will travel at least 50 miles from home this weekend. This is another record-breaking high for holiday travel.

Even with the influx of passengers, Airport General Manager Ricky Smith said in a CBS News Atlanta statement that: “We are prepared for the increased volume, and we are working to make sure travelers have the information they need before they arrive at ATL, from timing expectations to real-time travel updates, to help support a smoother travel experience.”
