This comes as part of the airport’s ongoing $1.4 billion Concourse D expansion project, a project that the city’s WSB-TV reports is now about halfway complete, thanks to the completion of these new gates.

Mayor Andre Dickens and airport leaders celebrated the progress, highlighting the project’s focus on modernizing the world’s busiest hub while prioritizing a seamless passenger experience, even while the construction is ongoing.

“We are continuing to innovate and elevate, and we are constantly improving,” the mayor said. “Not only will they raise the comfort bar, but we figured out how to do it with the minimal amount of [passenger] disruption along the way, and we are bringing the gates online earlier than expected.”

The ambitious Concourse D project will lengthen the concourse by nearly 300 feet and widen it by roughly 40 feet, alleviating long-standing congestion. Frank Rucker, the airport’s senior deputy general manager of Infrastructure, noted that project construction will significantly accelerate in the coming years to keep the project on track. “To put this in perspective, in the year ’27 we are anticipating doing $1 million of construction a day,” Rucker said.

Mayor Dickens emphasized that the ultimate goal is to upgrade the facility while keeping daily disruptions to an absolute minimum for the millions of yearly travelers. “Travelers coming to this concourse will be greeted with comfort, care, and new space,” Dickens said.

The massive Concourse D expansion is scheduled to be fully completed by 2029.
