Travelers wishing to avoid long security lines at Boston’s Logan International Airport in Massachusetts have a new option for TSA screening.
On June 1st, Massport is set to officially open the Logan Airport Remote Terminal. This terminal, located at 19 Flutie Pass on Route 9 in Framingham, Massachusetts, will be a first-in-the-nation facility that moves the security screening process away from the actual airport. Instead, travelers will have themselves and their bags checked before hopping on a bus that will drop them off right at the airport gate. Each bus will have a maximum occupancy of 55, with buses set to run every hour from 4 a.m. to 1 p.m. when the terminal first opens.

Officials say the goal of this new airport terminal is to clear congestion on the nearby roadways, while also creating a smoother airport experience for passengers. “It’s going to be more seamless, more convenient for the passengers and the traveling public,” said Peter Howe, Massport’s Deputy Director of Roadway Management. “We want to see how this pilot goes to see kind of what we can learn from it and how we can expand.”
For travelers looking to use the new remote terminal, there are a few things to keep in mind. There will be 400 parking spots at the Logan terminal upon opening, with parking costing $7 a day. In addition, passengers flying with either Delta Air Lines or JetBlue can purchase terminal tickets right now at $9 each. Children can ride free with a ticketed family member.
Airline officials and leaders say that if Boston’s remote terminal is successful, it could be the start of a new kind of TSA screening all across the US. “As we move through the future, we need to be willing to try new things and I think this is an important part of that to again reduce some friction,” added Daniel Blake, the VP of Airport Experience for JetBlue.
